Understanding Medicare & Physiotherapy

  1. Physiotherapy appointments are charged at the Standard rate for the clinician you’re seeing
  2. Medicare Rebate is currently $58.30
  3. Medicare will deposit the rebate into your linked bank account within 2 business days

At Head 2 Toe Physiotherapy, we understand the importance of physiotherapy in treating a wide range of acute and chronic conditions, such as back pain, headaches, tennis elbow, and sports injuries. That’s why we want to provide you with information on how Medicare can help cover the cost of your physiotherapy sessions. We believe in the power of personalized care and we’re dedicated to helping you regain control over your life. Let us guide you through the process and bring you back to the activities you love.

Can Physiotherapy Be Covered by Medicare?

Absolutely! Under certain conditions, you can receive a rebate for your physiotherapy sessions through Medicare. To access this benefit, you will need a specific ‘EPC Plan,’ also known as an ‘Enhanced Primary Care Plan’ or simply a ‘Care Plan.’ This plan must be completed and referred by your GP, who will assess your eligibility.

Understanding Medicare Physiotherapy Coverage:

With a Care Plan, you are eligible to have up to 5 sessions with a healthcare provider per calendar year, between January 1st and December 31st.

These sessions can be divided among different healthcare providers. For example, you might have two sessions with a podiatrist and three sessions with a physiotherapist, or four sessions with a physiotherapist and one session with an osteopath. The total should not exceed five rebates per calendar year.

Medicare Rebates for Physiotherapy:

It’s important to note that we do NOT bulk bill Medicare for physiotherapy at our practice. This means that there will always be a gap payment.

At Head 2 Toe Physiotherapy, we take pride in providing a quality service, investing our time solely in you.

As of January 2024, the Medicare rebate for physiotherapy is set at $58.30 per session. This means that whether it’s your initial consultation or subsequent follow-up visits, you’ll be eligible for the same rebate amount.

How to Obtain the Medicare Rebate:

At Head 2 Toe Physiotherapy, we’ve simplified the process for you. By working with a system called Medipass, we handle the hard work on your behalf.

All you need to do is absolutely nothing! After the consult has been paid for (by EFT or Cash) the $58.30 rebate will be credited to the account linked with Medicare within two business days, regardless of the account you used to pay for the consultation.

If you have any questions regarding Medicare rebates, please don’t hesitate to call or email us. We’re always here to provide you with the support and answers you need. Alternatively, you can visit your GP as soon as possible and request a referral to a physiotherapist who can help you move well, feel great, and live a pain-free life doing what you love.
